ABOUT
My name is Allana Akhtar and I'm an award-winning journalist with experience covering health, science, business, tech, retail, culture, and more.
I've spent my career writing breaking news and investigative features at Business Insider, growing the digital audience for MONEY Magazine, and helping scale the media tech startup The Juggernaut. I've also been published in Fortune Magazine, USA TODAY, and U.S. News & World Report. I've moderated multiple panels with CEOs, billion-dollar fund managers, labor leaders, and academics. I have appeared on ABC, NBC, SiriusXM, and NPR to discuss my work. Mark Cuban, Hasan Minhaj, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, John Oliver, and Andrew Yang have shared my work.
Currently, I am pursuing an MBA at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at NYU, specializing in media management and strategy. I also serve as the secretary of the South Asian Journalists Association, which represents 1,000+ journalists of South Asian origin working in the US and Canada.
I graduated from the University of Michigan with an Honors B.A. in political science. I served as a senior news editor for the campus paper, The Michigan Daily. I won numerous awards for my reporting, including the Best News Story in 2015 by the Michigan Press Association. I spent my senior year writing an undergraduate thesis on comparative elections and voter turnout, becoming adept at analyzing thousands of data points using Excel, SPSS and R.
My other interests include race, religion, college football, and R&B music. I weight lift and watch basketball in my free time. I'm also fluent in Urdu. Go blue!
